Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Against Houston Hospital
Posted in Wrongful Death on October 13, 2015
When someone goes to the emergency room with a life threatening condition, it is expected that they will receive treatment within a very short time frame. It is expected that if facing death, the patient will receive the medical attention they need immediately, and financial matters will be settled once the patient is stable. Sadly, a young father of three died in a Houston hospital after being denied prompt medical care, because, his family alleges, the hospital was more concerned with getting paid than saving the man’s life. The worst part of all? The man very likely would have survived had he received treatment in a timely matter.
The man had received an antibiotic injection from a doctor at an appointment on the day he died. As his condition worsened, he developed a fever, his throat swelled, and his heart rate hit 160. An ambulance took him to the hospital, where he and his family proceeded to wait, and wait…and wait. The man’s loved ones claim that the hospital was waiting on insurance information, and was haggling with the family over how they planned to pay for the man’s treatment. Meanwhile, the man’s condition worsened. Finally, one hour and 54 minutes after the man entered the state of anaphylactic shock, he was treated. But it was too late. By this point, he had long been unresponsive, according to the family. He died within the next hour. It was later confirmed that the man had been having an allergic reaction to the medication he had received, and he died due to anaphylactic shock.
It is a tragic story, but sadly not a rare one. If someone you love had died due to a medical professional’s negligence, misdiagnosis, or error, speak with a wrongful death attorney today.
