So Many Big Rigs, So Few Parking Spaces
Posted in Semi-Truck Accidents on July 29, 2015
In recent years, the number of semi-trucks on the road has increased considerably. As the number of trucks on the road has increased, the number of truck accidents has gone up as well. Industry leaders claim that part of the reason these accidents are occurring is that truckers are having a hard time finding parking places.
It’s not something the majority of people give a second thought to, but to a tired trucker after a long day on the road, finding a parking spot can mean the difference between life and death. Federal regulations allow truckers to drive 11 hours a day, with no more than 14 consecutive hours of driving before taking a required 10 hour break from driving. But because parking spots are limited or already taken, fatigued drivers are forced to continue driving illegally in order to find a parking place. Jet Express President Kevin Burch, who is also the vice chairman of the American Trucking Association, says, “These truckers have to rest, so where do they go? The truck stops are full. The rest stops are full. The shopping centers have no parking. It’s a big problem that no one seems to care about.”
The ones who DO care are the ones who have had their lives turned upside down by an overly tired truck driver. The results of an accident with an 18-wheeler are often tragic for the other vehicle involved. If you or someone you know has suffered as a result of a semi-truck accident, contact an attorney with experience in 18-wheeler trucking accident cases. The insurance company will do all they can to pay as little as possible, so you need an aggressive, hardworking lawyer on your side to get you the compensation you deserve.
